THE DOCTOR BEHIND THE DIALOGUE
Born in Peshawar, the provincial capital of KPK, Pakistan, Ahmed Rashid is a retired Brigadier of the Pakistan Armed Forces and a writer.
He pursued his MBBS from Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, Pakistan, and joined the Pakistan Army in 1979. During this tenure, he worked with General Headquarters as Director, GSO -I (Training and Coordination) in Army Medical College and Director Training, Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute.
He served four years in Saudi Arabia and one year as Senior Staff Officer (Medical) in the United Nations (UN) Mission to Somalia and Kenya, and remained CEO of several military hospitals. He attended Command and Staff College Quetta and secured B.Sc. ( Hons) in War Studies and pursued DCPS/MCPS (Healthcare Systems Management) from College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan - the world-recognized prime institute of postgraduate medical studies in Pakistan. He also has an MBA (Health Management) from Dow University of Health Sciences, M.Sc. ( Health Policy and Management) from Aga Khan University and a Master of Public Health from Baqai University of Health Sciences, Pakistan.
After serving thirty years in Pakistan/Saudi Armed Forces/UN, Ahmed Rashid continued to serve as CEO for several private hospitals, implementing standard health policies, ensuring quality care to clientele, and training staff. He remained as a medical expert with Sindh Health Care Commission, the regulatory authority which maintains a register of all healthcare establishments (HCEs) and grants, revokes, and renews licenses to these HCEs, subject to following the international standards. He also served as visiting faculty of IBA and IoBM.
Specialized in the field of healthcare, healthcare policies, and hospital management, currently in “Doctor Dialogues,” Ahmed Rashid aims to draw on his observations, experiences, and research in healthcare over the years, offering perspectives and ideas on healthcare issues, especially in the context of developing countries. His articles focus on researching, questioning, and raising health care issues that are faced by individuals, the community, the society, the developing and the developed nations. Ahmed Rashid aims to unravel and simplify the world of health and medical sciences by addressing global and societal concerns that the present world is witnessing. He writes through the lens of the practitioner, who continues to advise on healthcare practices and hospital management to this day.
He is also the author of the book “Natural disasters, their risk perceptions and how to cope with? An analytical study of coastal areas of Karachi”
